Breckenridge swept both championships, dominating the Mid-State Activities Conference track meet Wednesday at Breckenridge.
The Breckenridge boys took first with 124 points, edging Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart with 117. Coleman was fourth (81.5), St. Charles sixth (65) and Merrill eighth (28.5).
The Breckenridge girls finished with 170 points to snare the league title, with Merrill fifth (41), St. Charles seventh (37) and Coleman ninth (23).
Zander Mapes paced the Huskies, claiming the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 5 ½ inches and the discus with 139-8. Anthony Rowe added a win in the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 50.99 seconds, with a leg on Breckenridge’s winning 1,600 relay (3:46.11).
Coleman won a pair of relays with the same team as Brayden Wright, Collin Stockero, Killian D’Artagnan and Dominic Lawrence won the 400 relay (:47.30) and 800 relay (1:39.64).
In the girls meet, Breckenridge won three relays, with Bayleigh Clapp, Kylo Riedel, Raegyn Mayer and Kayla Goward claiming the 400 in :53.47, while Riedel, Da’sia Denwiddie, Mayer and Goward taking first in the 800 relay (1:53.37). The Huskies also won the 3,200 relay (11:45.71).
Clapp added a win in the 100 (:13.62), Riedel in the 100 hurdles (:17.82), Denwiddie in the 300 hurdles (:49.51) and Mayer in the long jump (16-4).
St. Charles sophomore Macie Hafner took first in the high jump (4-10).
Boys Golf
TVC Blue: Valley Lutheran won the final Tri-Valley Conference Blue jamboree of the season with 319 at Swan Valley Golf Course, but it wasn’t enough for the season championship with Nouvel finishing first overall. Valley Lutheran’s Reid Schisler earned medalist honors with a 73, followed by Valley Lutheran’s Tony Villarreal (78), Nouvel’s Alex McCarthy (80), Valley Lutheran’s Nolan Munger (83) and Nouvel’s Ian Ziegelmann (84). For the season, Valley Lutheran was second, Ithaca third and Hemlock fourth. Schisler, McCarthy, Ziegelmann, Villarreal, Nouvel’s Ty Iamurri, Nouvel’s Rodney Iamurri and Valley Lutheran’s Jacob Parker were first team all-conference. Second-team honorees included Ithaca’s Harper Merchant and Bryson LeBaron, Hemlock’s Cooper Gensch and Nicholas Chasnis, Nouvel’s Drew Carlson and Munger.
Big Thumb: Millington claimed the Big Thumb conference title Wednesday at Verona Hills Golf Course in Bad Axe with 333 strokes, followed by Bad Axe at 339. Brad Coleman led the Cardinals with seven-over 78, followed by Bryce Martin (80), Landon Germain (86) and Gabe Dueweke (89).
