Dozens of people received mammograms and other essential health screenings at the Free Community Health Day Tuesday at Richland Public Health. The event offered more than 30 free or low-cost health screenings, such as blood screens, HIV testing, Hepatitis C testing, blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, and more. It was a community collaborative supported by OhioHealth, Richland Public Health, Cleveland Clinic, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Avita Health System, and Third Street Family Health Services.
According to Richland Public Health Commissioner Julie Chaya, M.A., M.Ed, Ph.D, 39 people received mammograms throughout the day. OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital’s North Market Mobile Mammography Unit completed 20, and Cleveland Clinic completed 19. Dr. Chaya says nearly a dozen people were tested for HIV, Hepatitis C, or Syphilis, 145 people received blood pressure checks or other various lab tests, and a dozen people got vaccines. Mansfield Hospital and OhioHealth Clinically Integrated Network medical professionals on site also completed 31 skin cancer screenings, as well as several registrations for Cologuard kits to screen for colorectal cancer.
“Preventative care is a top priority for OhioHealth” said Elisa Bryant, MSML, BSN, OCN, a business project manager of oncology services at Mansfield Hospital and OhioHealth Shelby Hospital. “We want to keep our community healthy and prevent health issues before they become bigger problems down the line. We know the best ways to do that are through screenings and education, and eliminating barriers to care such as cost and lack of access.”
