NEWTON, Miss. (WTOK) - People gathered today at the Newton Recreational Park for “Kick out the Stigma.”
This event brought people together with kickball and plenty of food, to talk about mental health and connect with mental health resources.
People of all ages were invited to participate, with several games throughout the morning and into the afternoon.
Tiffany Sims with Yes to You counseling says it’s important to connect people with mental health resources and help get rid of the stigma that comes with mental health.
“Today was set aside to talk about mental health awareness and spreading awareness and talking about the resources that are available because a lot of times we don’t know that those resources are available and to break the stigma surrounding mental health,” said Sims. “So, we want to have some speakers out talking about grief, stigma, different resources, getting help, and we talked about suicide prevention today.”
Sims says she is planning on hosting more events like this in the future, so if you missed today due to the rain, you can look out for more in the future.
