Kesha changed the cover art for one of her songs after receiving backlash from fans, accusing her of using artificial intelligence (AI) for the picture.
The original cover depicted over 20 Birkin Bags sprawled on concrete, with the word “Delusional,” the name of her song, spray painted on them in black.
After posting the photo on Instagram in November 2024 when she released the song, Kesha received over a thousand comments, many of which criticized the cover and accused her of using artificial intelligence. One commenter wrote, “Girl a selfie would’ve been better than AI art.”
On Tuesday, Kesha posted a photo of herself zip tied, sitting in a chair with a large pink circle to the left of her. The photo, she said, would be the new cover art for “Delusional.”
“While making the single art for my song Delusional, I wanted to make the point that it’s DELUSIONAL that the world expects artists to continue making art when we are so undervalued,” Kesha wrote on Instagram.
The artist elaborated, explaining that she “tried to echo [her] idea in the form of a political single cover,” but ultimately realized that “living in alignment with [her] integrity is more important than proving a point.” She concluded, “So I’ve decided to change the cover art for this song.”
The pop artist added that the song’s art was “brought to you by” her “incredible team of humans” and then commented on the use of AI.
“AI is a Pandora’s box that we as a society have collectively opened,” her Instagram post reads. “And I think it’s important that we keep human ramifications in mind as we learn to use it as a tool and not as a replacement.”
