Angels manager Ron Washington is out indefinitely because of health concerns, general manager Perry Minasian told reporters on Friday.
Minasian said Washington will be around the team but not in the dugout as the 73-year-old manager focuses on his health. The specific health issue was not disclosed, but some reports said that Washington has been feeling ill the last few days.
The Angels begin a weekend home series with the Astros on Friday.
In Washington's absence, bench coach Ray Montgomery will manage the club. Montgomery has been with the Angels since 2020 and has been their bench coach since 2021.
Washington was hired as Angels manager prior to the 2024 season after a seven-season stint as a coach with the Braves. He previously managed the Rangers from 2007-14, leading them to two World Series appearances.
