Spring sports stars: Who are the top underclassmen around Muskegon? Our picks, your votes

MUSKEGON, MI – Last week, we asked readers of MLive and the Muskegon Chronicle to vote for the top junior athlete in the area for the 2025 spring sports season.

Now, we want to know who some of the rising stars in the Muskegon area are, as we highlight the underclassmen who have stood out so far this spring as we continue our Spring Sports Stars project.

We’ve put together a strong list of candidates from the 2027 and 2028 classes thanks to nominations from Muskegon-area coaches but we are counting on the readers of MLive and the Muskegon Chronicle to decide who the top choice is.

Readers can vote from now until noon on Monday, May 12, for their top candidate and we’ll publish the winner the next day.

Below are the 50 top nominated underclassmen spring sports athletes from the Muskegon area for the 2025 season, presented in alphabetical order.

Morgan Andres, Newaygo

The sophomore girls track standout for the Lions has recorded personal-best times in the 100 dash (13.72), 200 dash (27.60), 400 (1:08.76) and the long jump (16-7.5). She is also a member of the 400 relay (52.71) and 800 relay (1:53.13) teams.

Braedi Baker, North Muskegon

The sophomore softball standout for the Norse holds a .629 batting average with seven doubles, one triple, 10 RBI, 14 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. She has also logged 121 strikeouts and a 3.51 ERA from the mound in 69.2 innings.

Karrie Baldwin, North Muskegon

The freshman girls soccer standout for the Norse has added an incredible defensive presence from her center midfielder position this spring and has used her ability and stamina to help her team stymie opposing attacks.

Addison Barefoot, Hart

The freshman girls soccer standout for the Pirates has recorded six goals and one assist in 10 games so far this season. She has completed 111 passes and has a 78.7 percent completion rate on her passes, has dribbled by opponents 136 times for an average of 13 times per game, has intercepted 42 passes and recovered the ball 66 times.

Cruz Beckstrom, Mona Shores

The freshman boys golfer for the Sailors took top honors at the GMAA city tournament and currently leads the O-K Green Conference in 9-hole average and tied a school record by carding a 31 at a 9-hole event earlier this spring.

Pierce Bladzik, Mason County Central

The sophomore baseball standout for the Spartans splits his time at centerfield, shortstop, third base and pitcher. He currently holds a .250 batting average with three doubles, nine RBI and nine runs scored. He also registered 29 strikeouts from the mound in 18.1 innings.

Olivia Bradley, Hart

The sophomore girls soccer standout for the Pirates has registered five goals and four assists so far this season after moving from left back to center midfielder. She has scored 10 goals and dished out six assists in her young varsity career.

Audrey Brown, North Muskegon

The softball standout for the Norse has a .483 batting average with 14 hits, including three doubles, two triples and one home run, with nine RBI, 11 walks, 19 runs scored and 14 stolen bases.

Jayna Burmeister, Shelby

The freshman softball standout for the Tigers holds a .622 batting average with five home runs and 28 RBI from the plate. She is also 10-2 overall as the team’s starting pitcher and has registered 124 strikeouts and a 2.08 ERA in 60.1 innings pitched.

David Castrejon, Newaygo

The sophomore boys track standout for the Lions has recorded personal-best times in the 200 dash (27.08), 400 (56.74), 800 (2:13.56), 1,600 (4:45.28) and 3,200 (10:37.49).

Michael Chye, Mason County Central

The freshman baseball standout for the Spartans currently holds a .296 batting average with seven RBI, 12 walks, 10 runs and five stolen bases. He’s also the team’s starting catcher and has thrown three runners in 67.2 innings behind the plate.

Kayla Cihak, North Muskegon

The freshman girls soccer standout for the Norse was tasked with replacing All-State defender Kennedi Koekkoek this spring and has filled the role admirably in her first season as a varsity player and helped her team stymie opposing attacks.

Courtney Coon, White Cloud

The freshman girls track standout for the Indians has recorded personal-best marks in the 100 hurdles (18.07), 300 hurdles (52.37) and pole vault (9-0) and is also a member of the 1,600 relay team that has posted a season-best time of 4:29.38.

Kylie Corrigan, Newaygo

The freshman girls track standout for the Lions has recorded personal-best times in the 100 dash (13.23), 200 dash (27.31) and 100 hurdles (16.67) and is also a member of the 400 relay (52.71) and 800 relay (1:53.13) teams.

Olivia Curiel, Fremont

The sophomore girls tennis standout for the Packers holds a 4-5 record at No. 4 singles this spring, which leads her team in wins.

Justice Dixon, White Cloud

The sophomore girls track standout for the Indians has recorded season-best times in the 100 dash (13.01), 200 dash (28.19) and 400 (1:06.76) and is also a member of the 400 relay team that has posted a season-best time of 53.26 seconds.

Alex Dull, Spring Lake

The freshman boys volleyball standout for the Lakers has recorded eight aces, 31 assists, 57 digs, eight kills and one block so far this season.

Mady Faught, Mona Shores

The sophomore softball standout for the Sailors holds a .375 batting average with five home runs and 21 RBI so far this spring.

Austin Gragg, Grant

The sophomore baseball standout for the Tigers holds a .458 batting average with 22 hits, including four doubles, one triple and one home run so far this spring.

Brendan Guikema, Reeths-Puffer

The sophomore baseball standout for the Rockets holds a .400 batting average with two doubles and six RBI.

Luka Hammond, Grand Haven

The sophomore boys track standout for the Buccaneers has recorded personal-best times in the 800 (1:55.80), 1,600 (4:12.67) and 3,200 (9:38.62) and is also a member of the 3,200 relay team that has a season-best time of 8:00.92.

Ellie Hansen, Kent City

The sophomore softball standout for the Eagles leads her team in RBI (21), including five sacrifice RBI, and has scored 14 runs and stolen seven bases. She’s also posted nine strikeouts in 20 innings from the pitching circle.

Owen Haveman, Grand Haven

The sophomore baseball standout for the Buccaneers is currently batting .364 from the plate with a .451 on-base percentage and leads the team in hits with 16.

Reese Herremans, Ravenna

The sophomore softball standout for the Bulldogs holds a .528 batting average with a team-high 28 hits, including nine doubles, one triple and three home runs, 29 RBI, 29 runs scored, 11 walks and 19 stolen bases.

Ava Johnson, Ludington

The sophomore girls tennis standout for the Orioles is 13-4 on the season at No. 2 singles with wins over Grant, Mt. Pleasant, Cadillac, Greenville, North Muskegon, Mona Shores, Fruitport, Whitehall, Manistee, Reeths-Puffer, Sparta, Fremont, Portland and Sturgis.

The sophomore boys track standout for the Buccaneers has recorded personal-best times in the 100 dash (10.97) and 200 dash (22.44) and is also a member of the 400 relay (41.69), 800 relay (1:26.92) and 1,600 relay (3:21.28) teams who have set new school records this spring.

The sophomore softball standout for the Bulldogs has a .544 batting average with 25 hits, 16 RBI, 19 runs scored, five walks and three stolen bases.

Jada Mosher, Mona Shores

The sophomore softball standout for the Sailors holds a .326 batting average with 10 runs scored and seven stolen bases so far this spring.

Kendall Munford, Grand Haven

The sophomore girls soccer standout for the Buccaneers has tallied nine goals and five assists so far this season.

Barrett Nance, North Muskegon

The sophomore boys track standout for the Norsemen has recorded personal-best times in the 400 (51.86) and 800 (1:58.10). He recently took top honors in the 800 at the GMAA city track and field invite and is closing in on the school record in the event.

Josalynn Nowicki, Fruitport

The sophomore girls tennis standout for the Trojans currently holds a 12-2 record at No. 1 singles and recently won the GMAA city tournament title last weekend.

Marguerite O’Connell, Montague

The freshman girls soccer standout helps anchor a strong defensive unit for the Wildcats this spring that has recorded six shutouts so far this season.

Aveya Patino, Spring Lake

The sophomore girls soccer standout for the Lakers scored the game-winning goal in the Division 2 state championship game last spring and has registered 13 goals and eight assists so far this season.

Callie Peterson, Montague

The freshman girls soccer standout helps anchor a strong defensive unit for the Wildcats this spring that has recorded six shutouts so far this season.

Rilynn Porter, Hart

The sophomore girls soccer standout for the Pirates has recorded five goals and seven assists so far this season, including two goals and two assists in a 4-0 win over Comstock Park. She has registered eight goals and 14 assists so far in her varsity career between time at left wing and left wingback.

Natalie Rosel, Ravenna

The sophomore softball standout for the Bulldogs has a .381 batting average with 16 hits, including five doubles and one home run, 20 RBI, 26 runs scored, 12 walks and 13 stolen bases. She is also 8-0 as her team’s starting pitcher with 73 strikeouts in 43 innings and holds a 1.30 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP.

The sophomore girls track standout for the Spartans has registered personal-best times in the 100 hurdles (16.29) and 300 hurdles (47.64) and a season-best mark in the long jump (13-10) so far this spring.

The sophomore boys track standout for the Warriors has recorded personal-best times in the 800 (2:13.69), 1,600 (4:57.36) and 3,200 (10:38.66) and is also a member of the 1,600 relay (3:42.71) and 3,200 relay (8:15.98) teams.

The sophomore baseball standout for the Lions has registered a .441 batting average with 12 RBI from the plate and holds a 0.79 ERA from the mound with 15 strikeouts.

Khloe Siler, Spring Lake

The freshman softball standout for the Lakers has recorded a .479 batting average with 23 hits, including four doubles, two triples and two home runs, 14 RBI, five walks, 29 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 16 games. She’s also registered 42 strikeouts in 31.2 innings from the pitching circle.

The sophomore girls track standout for the Warriors registered personal-best times in the 400 (1:04.41) and 800 (2:35.89) last week and is also a member of the 1,600 relay team that has posted a season-best time of 4:34.42.

The sophomore softball standout for the Tigers has registered a .359 batting average so far this spring.

Esther Vissia, Fremont

The freshman girls soccer standout for the Packers has recorded 17 goals and eight assists in 13 matches so far this spring.
