Colin Workman gave the Heritage boys lacrosse team a dramatic victory, scoring the game-winner in overtime to send the Hawks to a regional final.
Workman scored off an assist from John Ryan to give Heritage a 12-11 overtime victory over Midland Dow to earn a spot in the regional championship Wednesday against Haslett at Midland Community Stadium.
Dow tied the game with 17 seconds remaining in regulation, setting up the overtime heroics.
Elden Wideman led the Heritage offense with five goals and two assists, with Logan Boettcher adding three goals.
Ryan had six ground balls and two assists, while Josh Larsen made 14 saves in goal. Freddie Alvarado won 13 faceoffs.
Girls Lacrosse
Haslett 13, Heritage 10: The most successful season in Heritage girls lacrosse history came to an end in a regional loss. Breeghan Hamilton led the offense with four goals, while Lily Huffman, Izzy Ella Sopcak and Claire Starke added two goals each. Huffman and Eva Lisik had interceptions, while Molly Baldwin had 17 saves in goal. The Hawks, who finished 14-2, claimed its second consecutive Saginaw Valley League title and set a program single-game record with 25 goals, the third most in MHSAA history. Hamilton also set a Heritage record for most goals in a single game with 10.
Girls Soccer
Hemlock 8, Ithaca 0: Hemlock improved to 9-7-1, advancing to a regional semifinal matchup against No. 7-ranked Nouvel. Izzy Krueger led the Huskies with one goal and four assists, while Leah Tilot scored her first two varsity goals. Khloe Rump, Grace Murtha, Maycee Vanderwall, Lauren Lagalo and Gracyn Gronski scoring single goals. Vanderwall, Lexie Rump and Emma Keen added assists. Taryn Pratt earned her eighth shutout of the season, tying her 2024 mark.
Girls Track
MITCA D2 Meet: Frankenmuth finished fifth with 1,218 points and Freeland sixth with 1,195.5 points in the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association state meet Friday at Berrien Springs. Holland Christian won the team event with 1,531 points. Natalie Foltz gave the Eagles a title in the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 8.35 seconds. Freeland earned a pair of state titles, with freshman Payton Maxey setting a personal record to win the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 3 inches. Freeland also won the 3,200 relay in 9:37.22 behind Addie Seemann, McKenna Koehler, Karie Keefer and Clara Kaczor.
Boys Track
MITCA D2 Meet: Frankenmuth finished fourth with 951.5 points, Alma was seventh (905) and Swan Valley ninth (833.5) in the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association state meet Friday at Berrien Springs. Battle Creek Harper Creek won the team title with 1,393 points. Swan Valley’s Boston Streng-Beougher took first in the 400-meter dash in 50.08 seconds.
Softball
Freeland 16-16, Bridgeport 0-0: Madeline McDonald led Freeland in the opener with six RBIs and three hits, including a homer. Brynn Jaime also had three hits, with Sophia Price earning the shutout win. In Game 2, Jenna Kowalski had two hits and four RBIs for the Falcons (18-12, 10-2). Grace Deshone had three hits, with Brielle Coffey earning the win.
Midland High 13-13, Cass City 1-3: Addie Edwards had three hits and drove in four runs to lead Midland to the Game 1 win, with Sydney Rhoton allowing two hits and striking out seven for the win. Maggie Frazee added two hits, including a homer. In Game 2, Emily Wendt led the Chemics with four hits and three RBIs, with Edwards also driving in three runs. Taylor Sequin struck out six in earning the win.
Reed City 11-0, Coleman 2-16: Klaira Sysak had a hit, walk and RBI in the Game 1 loss, but Coleman rebounded for a four-inning win in Game 2. Kendall Allen allowed four hits and one walk in four innings to earn the win, adding two hits and two runs at the plate. Isabelle Lewis and Eliza Lewis led the 16-18 Comets with two hits each, while Sydney Bovee drove in three runs. Raegan McCoy walked three times and drove in two runs. Elley Johnson, the lone senior on the Coleman roster, drove in two runs and scored three times.
Boys Golf
MSAC Meet: Charlie Cornford shot a 104 to lead St. Charles in the Mid-State Activities Conference championship meet at The Emerald in St. Johns. Brenden Servantes followed with a 109.
