Paige Bueckers took home one final accolade from her time at UConn, receiving the Honda Sports Award for women’s basketball. Presented by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards, it goes to the top athlete in 12 NCAA women’s sports — “the best of the best in collegiate athletics,” as the organization put it.
With the award, Bueckers is now a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2025 Honda Cup, which will be given out at the end of June.
She’s the 13th Husky to earn the hardware, joining Breanna Stewart (2014, ‘15, ‘16), Maya Moore (2010, ‘11), Renee Montgomery (2009), Diana Taurasi (2003, ‘04), Sue Bird (2002), Shea Ralph (2000), Jennifer Rizzotti (1996) and Rebecca Lobo (1995). Bueckers has now claimed every major national player of the year honor, taking home AP, USBWA, Naismith and Wooden Awards in 2021 while nabbing the Wade Trophy and Honda Sports Award this past season.
Bueckers finished her UConn career with the highest points per game average in program history at 19.8 and landed third on the all-time scoring list with 2,439 points. She is a three-time consensus First Team All-American, three-time Big East Player of the Year, three-time Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player and three-time NCAA Regional Most Outstanding Player.
In her final season, Bueckers guided the Huskies to a national championship — her first and the program’s 12th.
