CEREMONIES. 741 NOW THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL HEALTH ILLNESS IS LOOKING TO CHANGE THE NARRATIVE SURROUNDING MENTAL HEALTH. THEY’RE HOSTING A WALK IN COUNCIL BLUFFS TO HELP THEM DO JUST THAT, AND KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S MARY REGLI IS LIVE AT RIVER’S EDGE PARK WITH THE DETAILS. GOOD MORNING, MARY. GOOD MORNING, EDDIE AND ANNA. YEAH, PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE METRO ARE UNITING AT THE RIVER’S EDGE TODAY TO WALK FOR MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS. AND ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE IS TODD STUDER. TODD IS ACTUALLY THE EMCEE TODAY. TODD, WHY DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH THIS ORGANIZATION? WELL, THIS GOES BACK SEVERAL YEARS. THE FIRST TIME THAT I SPOKE AT AN EVENT FOR NAMI WAS 2009, AND I TOLD ANNA, STEPHANIE AND BRITTANY AND EVERYBODY INVOLVED WITH THIS ORGANIZATION THAT IF YOU WANT SOMETHING FROM ME, THE ANSWER IS YES. AND THEN WE’LL FIND OUT WHAT IT IS AFTERWARDS. I DIDN’T FIND OUT UNTIL LATER THAT IT’S GOING TO BE THE WINDIEST DAY OF THE YEAR, BUT I ALREADY SAID YES. SO I’M OUT HERE. BUT IT’S WHAT THIS ORGANIZATION DOES. AND THE WAY THAT THEY PROVIDE ASSISTANCE AND HELP FOR FOLKS THAT NEED IT COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE FOR THEM. THAT’S THIS IS THE ORGANIZATION THAT I BELIEVE IN THE MOST, AND THIS IS THE ONE WHERE I’D LIKE TO PUT MY EFFORTS IN. OKAY. AND WHY DO YOU THINK MENTAL HEALTH IS SO IMPORTANT TO SUPPORT? WELL, I THINK THAT EVERYTHING FROM THAT WE TALK ABOUT THE WORD STIGMA IS ALMOST BEEN WATERED DOWN TO THE POINT THAT IT DOESN’T HAVE THE SAME PUNCH THAT IT USED TO, BUT IT’S STILL JUST JUST AS MEANINGFUL, YOU KNOW, WHEN SOMEBODY IS DEALING WITH SOMETHING, IT’S NOT A PERSONALITY FLAW. IT IS. IT’S A IT’S A HEALTH CONDITION, JUST LIKE DIABETES, JUST LIKE A HEART CONDITION, JUST LIKE ANYTHING LIKE THAT. AND WHEN WE CAN ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO COME OUT AND ACTUALLY GET THE HELP THAT THEY NEED AND THE HELP THAT’S AVAILABLE, THEN IT RAISES EVERYBODY UP. OKAY. THANKS SO MUCH, TODD. AND IF YOU’D LIKE TO WALK TODAY, REGISTRATION STARTS IN JUST ABOUT A HALF HOUR AND IT IS ACTUALLY FREE. AND THEY ALSO HAVE FREE BREAKFAST TODAY TO LIV
