Browns Insider Predicts Trades Before Start of 2025

There are a few Cleveland Browns players who could be on the move this offseason.

There has been a ton of speculation about the fate of all four quarterbacks on the Cleveland Browns' 90-man offseason roster.

General manager Andrew Berry quadrupled down with signal callers with two veterans and two young draft picks.

The hero from the 2023 season, Joe Flacco, returns in free agency after a year in Indianapolis as the experienced veteran, and former Steelers first-round pick Kenny Pickett arrived in a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Berry took two quarterbacks in this year's draft, with Oregon's Dillon Gabriel in the third round and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders in the fifth.

Some experts think the Browns will end up finding their starter in the preseason and end up trading at least one of the other three.

The Athletic's Zac Jackson is in that camp and believes the team is in for some cost-saving cuts or trades soon.

"This is a tough one given the uncertainty across the Browns' roster," Jackson noted. "It's possible—maybe even likely—that either Flacco or Pickett won't be on the team, and that the Browns will keep two rookie quarterbacks. Cornerback Greg Newsome II is under contract only through 2025 and could be traded sometime between August and early November with no dead cap hit.

The Greg Newsome trade speculation is nothing new.

Because he's approaching the final year of his deal with a $13.377 million cap hit, many believe he might be moved. That, on top of his vocal dissatisfaction about his playing time and usage last season, could spell trade or cut for the cornerback.

“It’s been an interesting kind of relationship with Greg and sort of his role,” explained Orange and Brown Talk host Dan Labbe on a recent podcast. “Last year was the first year, he’s been their slot guy for a few years, but last year it was really kind of the first year where, when they did have two corners on the field, he wasn’t one of them.”

Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot reported that he might not be happy in Cleveland.

“When I talked to Greg Newsome at the Super Bowl on Radio Row back in January or early February, he talked about the fact that he wants to be used more. He was primarily the nickel back last year. He wants to be on the field more often,” Cabot reported on the Orange and Brown Talk podcast. “More tellingly, Newsome actually point blank said, 'You know, I need to know some things before I want to sign a long-term contract here.'"

Newsome started 11 games in 2021, 15 games in 2022, 13 games in 2023, but just three in 2024.
